What’s a nurse call trigger?

A nurse call trigger is used to trigger a medical emergency alert that enables other personnel to respond with first aid and/or call emergency services. It can come with or without sirens and lights and can be wireless or hardwired. All workplaces need a method for workers to quickly call for help.

What’s a nurse call system?

Generally, a nurse call system will consist of a triggering device and a control panel that alerts management. It could also include lights and sirens. The purpose is to increase the speed with which a response is coordinated so medical outcomes are improved. This is achieved with a one-to-many approach that clearly indicates where the emergency is and who is responding.

What industries are Orisent’s nurse call systems built for?

We started designing nurse call systems for construction sites. Construction sites evolve every day, requiring systems that evolve with it. Orisent’s nurse call triggers are battery-operated, can be relocated and renamed easily, are lightweight, and feed information back to management on device and network power and connectivity. We have also installed nurse call systems at assisted living facilities, medical offices, warehouses, manufacturing plants, electrical substations, schools, civic projects, and mines.

What’s a TCU?

Short for Touchscreen Control unit, the TCU is our proprietary emergency alert system manager and the primary method of managing the operations and maintenance of the emergency alert system. It’s mains powered and situated on site.

How does the TCU work?

Using the TCU, you can respond to nurse call alerts, trigger evacuations, respond to evacuations, manage devices, and view connectivity and power of devices in real time. You can use the TCU on its own, or connect it to the internet which will share information with Orisent’s cloud server, smartphone app, and web-based user portal.

How does the smartphone app work?

Users are added to the site by user portal managers. New users receive an onboarding SMS with links to the downloadable app and their unique login details. When users are created, you can assign them permissions on what they can see, what event messages they’ll receive, and what tasks they can perform to manage the system. The smartphone app shares a lot of the same features as the TCU so is perfect for remote system management.

Does the smartphone app work with all iOS/Android devices?

Yes – the smartphone app is available for both iOS and android devices and should work on most of them. If you are having trouble getting it to work on your device please get in touch and our tech team will look into it.

Does the smartphone app cost extra?

Yes. A software subscription is required for each unique site and includes up to 50 users. The subscription also includes access to the web-based user portal, software integrations, SMS alerts, and email notifications.

Are our products covered by a warranty?

Yes – our hardware is covered by a 12-month warranty. Extended warranties can be purchased should the hardware be required on site for more than 12 months, or if it’s going to be reused on another project. To learn more about our product warranties speak to our sales or customer service team.

Do you need special qualifications to manage and maintain our hardware or software?

No. Installation can be managed by anyone on your team who can use cable ties or a screwdriver and manage the system setup on the TCU and/or smartphone app. We offer our customers comprehensive instructions and online onboarding to ensure key personnel are aware of how to look after and use the system. We have designed our systems to be easy to use and intuitive.

How many nurse call triggers, evacuation triggers, or evacuation sirens will your site/workplace need?

How your system is designed depends largely on your site configuration (including range limitations or perceived connectivity obstructions), emergency plan requirements, budget, project status, and site needs. Our sales team can offer advice at the time of quoting.

How much are our products?

The price of an emergency alert system that suits your site or workplace requirements depends greatly on the configuration of where it needs to be installed and what services you need it to perform. You can often reuse devices on another site.

How do our cellular systems work?

Our cellular devices communicate directly with our cloud servers rather than using radio frequency signals to form a local network. They’re designed for sites where there’s a specific issue such as range or the location can’t be fixed. They can be used in conjunction with our radio frequency devices or on their own. A cellular only system doesn’t require a TCU but does require subscription services. Our sales team will build a system that works with your unique requirements and site/workplace challenges.

Services
Can we help you design a system for your site or workplace?

Definitely. Once we understand the industry you’re from, the challenges we need to address, your site layout, and the features you want, we can design a system for you very quickly. You can also retrofit an Orisent system to replace an outdated system with very little expense as they don’t need to be hard wired, potentially saving you thousands in rewiring and installation. Just get in touch with our sales team and they’ll let you know what information they need.

How quickly will you receive your order?

Orders tend to be dispatched within one week of receiving a purchase order (PO). However we can turn around an order same day when required. Please let us know of any delivery requirements when placing the order.

Will you need us to install your system?

No. We deliver the systems as a plug-and-play solution. Simply connect the devices to power and test them to ensure they are still connected via the wireless network. As it’s likely you’ll be working with our mesh radio frequency devices, we recommend installing the closest devices to the TCU first, then building out your system from there. If you’re installing a standalone system (no software), this is best ascertained with testing each trigger and siren. If you’re using a TCU, smartphone app, or web-based user portal, you can monitor this on the dashboard. If the signal is not great, we suggest moving your devices closer to one another. We can assist you with remote troubleshooting at any time. You could also use your regular electrical or building maintenance contractors to install the system and we can work with them. We do offer installation at additional cost. Speak to our sales team about what you need.

Will you need an electrician to install the nurse call or evacuation devices?

No. Unless you intend on hard wiring the system on site, you don’t need an electrician to install, setup, reconfigure, move or maintain the system. This can all be managed in house by you and your team.

Can we stagger payment and delivery of your order?

Once an order is dispatched, an invoice is generated by our finance department. However, your order can be split into several deliveries in order to work with the progress of your project. So for example, you may decide you need 16 evacuation sirens for your project, but you only want them to arrive on site four at a time. This is totally fine. It’s important to note that every additional delivery or installation will incur additional fees. We can confirm this with you at the time of quoting.

Do we offer training for you and your team?

As a condition of the Terms and Conditions, all system owners must nominate a System Admin Manager who will become our primary contact for everything to do with the system. They receive onboarding materials, guides, and inductions.

Can Orisent systems integrate with hardware or software you are currently using?

We can integrate with 3rd party software and hardware. Speak to our sales team regarding your needs.

Can I reuse your systems?

Yes. We have many customers who reuse Orisent systems on a second or third site. For these projects we offer a recommissioning service which will ensure all devices are using the latest software, and are networking correctly.
